The Stain of Esau

The reports from Edom – the crumbling of their technological foundations, the spiraling debt, the systemic oppression laid bare – are not merely economic indicators or political scandals. They are the unfolding of Obadiah’s decree (Obadiah 1:10-14): violence upon Esau, the cutting off of remembrance, the stripping of possessions. Yahuah does not casually dismantle nations. He dismantles those who have consistently sought to undermine His covenant people and His ways. Edom, historically and in its modern iterations, embodies the spirit of rebellion, the preference for worldly cunning over divine order.

But the judgment upon Edom is not an end in itself. It is a clearing of the ground, a necessary pruning to prepare for the flourishing of Yisrael. The relentless pursuit of synthetic materials and technological dominion, hallmarks of Edom’s influence, has created a spiritual and physical distance between Yisrael and the land, between Yisrael and the Creator. We have become entangled in a web of artifice, mistaking the imitation for the genuine, the convenient for the qodesh.
