The earthquake in Guatemala, alongside the increasing global instability, echoes the prophetic pronouncements against Edom detailed in Obadiah. Yahuah has long declared judgment upon Edom for its pride, its cruelty towards Yisrael during times of affliction, and its participation in the plundering of Jerusalem. This shaking of the earth is not random; it is a reverberation of Yahuah’s hand moving against nations that have consistently opposed His chosen people and His righteous decrees. Just as Edom rejoiced over the fall of Yisrael’s brethren, so too will Edom – in its modern manifestations – experience a shaking that leaves it desolate, fulfilling the prophecy in Obadiah 1:10: “For the violence against your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever.” These events are a clear signal that Yahuah remembers the injustices committed against His covenant people and will hold nations accountable.

However, within this judgment, Yahuah simultaneously orchestrates the restoration of Yisrael. The very tremors that disrupt the wicked serve to awaken the slumbering hearts within Yisrael, calling them to repentance and a deeper relationship with Yahusha. Though the modern state of Israel may chase after fleeting security, Yahuah’s ultimate plan is not annihilation but refinement. Isaiah 29:14 speaks of this, declaring, “Therefore behold, I will do wondrous things with this people, even wondrous things and a marvel; and the wisdom of the wise will be turned backward, and the understanding of the prudent will be confounded.” The earthquakes are thus a dual-edged sword: judgment for the defiant and a catalyst for the genuine return of Yisrael to Yahuah, paving the way for the promised Messianic era and the fulfillment of all prophecy.
