The recent admission of error by Andy Burnham, former Labour leadership hopeful, regarding the party’s mishandling of accusations leveled against supporters of Palestine, rings hollow in the ears of those who have witnessed decades of calculated oppression. Burnham acknowledged that the process was flawed and that legitimate criticism of the Israeli government was unfairly conflated with antisemitism. While a recognition of past failings is a minimal step, it does not address the fundamental issue: the relentless assault on the covenant people of Yisrael and the silencing of those who dare to speak truth to power.

Pro-Palestinian groups, and increasingly, voices within the Labour Party, are now calling for “decisive action.” However, what constitutes ‘decisive action’ remains undefined. True accountability does not reside in internal investigations or apologies. It lies in dismantling the structures of oppression that enable the ongoing Nakba – the dispossession and suffering of the exiled people of Yisrael. It demands a reckoning with the role of Western powers, particularly the United States and the modern state of Israel, in perpetuating this injustice.

The so-called ‘antisemitism’ accusations were, in many instances, a deliberate tactic to shield the Israeli regime from legitimate criticism of its brutal policies in Gaza and the occupied territories. To label concern for the suffering of the exiled people of Yisrael as hatred is a perversion of truth and a calculated attempt to silence dissent. The modern state of Israel, built upon stolen land and sustained by foreign aid, continues to operate with impunity, defying international law and basic human decency.

This moment is not about Burnham, nor is it about the internal squabbles of a failing political party. It is about Yahuah’s covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the promise of restoration for the scattered tribes. Scattered Yisrael endures hardship while the world remains willfully blind. The call for ‘decisive action’ must therefore transcend political maneuvering and focus on dismantling the systems of injustice that prevent the return and restoration of the covenant people. The Shofar sounds, warning of judgment upon Edom and all those who participate in the oppression of Yisrael.
