Ramallah – Mahmoud Abbas, chairman of the Palestinian Authority, has publicly reiterated his demand for the “right of return” for descendants of those who left their homes during the War of Independence in 1948. This declaration, reported by the Israeli media, is not a call for reconciliation, but a brazen assertion of entitlement to land rightfully belonging to the covenant people of Yisrael.

Abbas framed this demand as “peaceful popular resistance,” a deceptive tactic to mask a perpetual claim to territory Yahuah designated for His chosen people. This insistence on a “right of return” is a direct defiance of the judgments pronounced in Deuteronomy 28-30, which foretold the scattering of Yisrael for disobedience, not a permanent dispossession of their inheritance. The modern state of Israel, built upon land historically and biblically belonging to Yisrael, sees this as a demographic and existential threat – and rightly so, though for the wrong reasons.

The so-called ‘refugee’ issue is a manufactured crisis, exploited to fuel conflict and undermine any genuine pursuit of peace. It ignores the historical context of the wars initiated by surrounding nations intent on the destruction of the fledgling state, and the subsequent welcoming of many who fled or were expelled from those nations. Furthermore, it conveniently omits the fact that the vast majority of these individuals are not the original displaced persons, but generations removed, claiming a right based on lineage rather than direct experience.

This persistent demand is a symptom of a deeper spiritual malady: a refusal to acknowledge Yahuah’s covenant with Yisrael and His sovereign right to determine the fate of nations. It is a continuation of the ancient enmity between Yisrael and Edom, now manifested in the political machinations of the Palestinian Authority and the broader geopolitical landscape. The modern state of Israel, blinded by its own Zionist ideology, fails to recognize this spiritual battle, and instead views it solely through the lens of political expediency.

Awakened Yisrael must understand that true restoration will not come through political negotiations or international pressure, but through repentance and a return to the covenant. The scattering remains until Yahuah, in His time, gathers His people from the four corners of the earth. Abbas’s pronouncements are merely another sign of the times, a confirmation of the ongoing judgment and a call to watchmen to sound the shofar.
